7 HABITS

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

Last week I was back in Ipoh for the annual Formation Team meeting. This time the meeting nicely name TALSaR….The Amazing La Sallian Race. It was a great one too. Kudos to Prita and Sanjiv for organising the whole thing. They really outdid themselves. The TALSaR was also to incorporate the most important learning….the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Leaders (shared by the greatest speaker I’ve ever known….Bro Michael Broughton…and of course my dear friend who is also a great speaker..Eric)

The day started with the first 3 habits where it talks about Personal Victory:

1) Be Proactive

2) Begin with the End in mind

3) Put first things first

It was a great time…cause it was a time to reevaluate my life so far. A long reflection as you might say so and it was a time to renew my Personal Mission Statement. I think it has definitely change a lot.

After that came the race…….it was fun…I was posted at the Bougavilla Park (I didn’t know it exist). Only 5 groups out of 6 groups came to my station. Haha a lot of funny things happen during the race…and it shows that even if a group with more Ipoh people, it doesn’t really matter…

The evening session saw us with the last 4 habits:

4) Think Win-win

5) Seek first to understand then to be understood

6) Synergy

these 3 habits brings about public victory

And finally 7) Sharpening the Saw

The 7th habit is suppose to be the habit of growing more.

I enjoyed the weekend. It speaks a lot about my methods of leading groups sometimes. Sometimes the 7 habits do come out in me but sometimes I don’t bring it up. Well it’s a was a great sharpening the saw experience for a lot of people too.

The weekend also saw me commisioned as a Commisioner for the Malaysian LaSallian Youth Commission. A commission recently started for the FT by the FT. It was a touching experience and for a few seconds I did question my ability and also my courage to join such a group. However it did reaffirm me of my passion in the La Salle family. Hopefully the next 1 1/2 years I’ll be able to perform a great job for the FT…..
